“Music for Mavis” Tuesdays at the Gazebo will come to its fall closure with the beautiful talents of our own Mary Murphy from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the gazebo in Turner.

Maine native Murphy is a soulful singer/songwriter, indie recording artist and multi-instrumentalist with a vast repertoire. She enjoys interacting with her audience and her performances often include witty anecdotes. She performs her own arrangements of classic country, blues, jazz, oldies and original songs dynamically with voice, piano and blues harp, solo or with a group.

Mary was introduced to our Gazebo community by “Gramma” Nette, who passed away this past June. Nette was the backbone, cheerleader, and directive operator of our endeavors to make “Music for Mavis” really happen and to bring ongoing musical performances to our communities.

In the first year of Music for Mavis – a name coined by Nette (“A keeper,” she announced. People will know what this is all about.”) – Nette was determined to have two particular musicians grace the stage: Mary Murphy and Denny Breau. She had been introduced to them at Sawyer Memorial and became an instant fan, and lover of their respective music. So it is fitting that Murphy open and close our season this year – and a big hats off and thanks as well to Denny Breau. Also thank you to all of the talented musicians and to all of the music lovers who come and donate your time, love of music and add “to the hat” to help us continue to bring great music.

Nette was Mavis’ dear, ever-steady, sister-in-law and friend who endlessly kept us all keeping on keeping on. And now here we are winding up our 2021 year of  sharing music together.

The gazebo is located at 98 Mathews Way, off Route 117, in Turner Center. We pass the hat to pay the musicians. Suggested donation $10. For more information, call (207) 754-0954.
