TROY — A chorus of voices in favor of increased road maintenance on dirt roads swayed the budgeting process in their favor Saturday at the annual Town Meeting.
Town Clerk Kathy Mattingly said a group of voters who live on dirt roads successfully amended an article to increase road spending to $40,000, up from the $15,000 figure that was recommended by the budget committee.
“That was the hot topic, but it was a very calm and well-maintained meeting,” Mattingly said Monday.
During the four-hour meeting, about 55 voters approved 43 articles for a total amount of $543,591 in spending, which is about $16,000 more than the previous year.
In 2011, voters approved $527,194 and had a tax rate of $13.19 per $1,000 of valuation.
There are 692 registered voters in Troy.
