ORONO — An international group that promotes economic policies that have a positive social impact will be in Maine to learn more about the plan to develop offshore wind power.
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which has 34 member countries including the United States, is sending a delegation to the University of Maine Advanced Structures and Composites Center in Orono today. The group will get a tour and briefing on the DeepCWind Consortium, which is leading in the plan to develop a floating wind farm that will generate up to 5,000 megawatts of electricity beginning in 2030.
The Paris-based international group is beginning a tour of renewable energy projects in the United States, and its first stop is Orono. The visit is organized by the federal government.
