WINTHROP — Lauryn Wood struck out 12 and allowed three hits in the circle as Winthrop defeated Dirigo 10-1 in Mountain Valley Conference softball game Wednesday.
Wood also had two hits for the Ramblers (5-4) while Haley Williams added two hits and four RBIs. Ella Rice had three hits, Lydia Rice had two, and Maddie Perkins had a triple.
Winthrop scored five runs in the bottom of the first and one run each in the second and fourth. The Ramblers tacked on three more in the sixth.
Kallie Errington scored the lone run for Dirigo (3-4) in the top of the sixth.
MESSALONSKEE 5, BANGOR 3: The Eagles (3-5) scored five runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pick up a big win over the Rams (5-3) in Oakland.
Elise McDonald had a single, a double and two runs scored for Messalonskee, which totaled nine hits. Wills got the win for the Eagles in the circle.
Lane Barron took the loss for the Bangor, which had five hits at the plate.
HALL-DALE 9, TELSTAR 3: The Bulldogs plated five runs in the fifth inning to break open a close game and grab the MVC victory in Farmingdale.
Ashlynn Donahue pitched a complete game to earn the victory while Marie Benoit had three singles. Torie Tibbetts had a pair of singles for Hall-Dale (8-0) as well.
Macie Hallett and Makenzie Eliot each doubled for the Rebels (5-4).
WATERVILLE 8, BELFAST 3, NINE INNINGS: The Purple Panthers (3-5) snapped a five-game losing streak by scoring five runs in the ninth inning to prevail over the Lions (0-9) in Belfast.
Raylee Gilbert had two singles for Waterville at the plate. She also earned the win for the Panthers in the circle.
Alexia Hopkins took the loss for Belfast. The Lions committed nine errors in the field.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 16, MT. ABRAM 5: Brooklyn Federico improved to 7-0 with a complete game and also doubled to lead the Mustangs to the MVC victory in Salem.
Rileigh Chase and Zara Falk also doubled for Monmouth (7-0).
Aiyana Savage tripled for Mt. Abram (1-6).
OXFORD HILLS 17, MT. BLUE 0: Freshman Gigi DiVivo led the Vikings with a two-run double in the second and a two-run RBI single in the fourth in the win in Paris.
Oxford Hills (8-0) scored a run in the first then six in the second while scoring two in the third and eight in the fourth.
Maddie Cote had a double in for the Cougars (0-9).
VALLEY 7, RICHMOND 3: The Cavaliers (5-0) jumped out to a four-run first-inning en route to a Class D South victory over the Bobcats (4-5) in Bingham.
Emily Collins had a single and a double for Valley in the win. Breonna Dufresne recorded a single, a triple and an RBI for Richmond.
BASEBALL
HALL-DALE 11, TELSTAR 5: Jackson Leach doubled and had two singles to help the Bulldogs roll pas the Rebels in an MVC game in Farmingdale.
Ben Nathan had a double and a triple for the Bulldogs (6-2), who trailed 5-0 early in the game.
Telstar dropped to 1-8.
MT. ABRAM 6, MONMOUTH ACADEMY 3: A four-run fifth inning lifted the Roadrunners (5-2) past the Mustangs (6-2) in Salem.
Ian Allen and Wyatt Siemenski each had a hit and two RBIs. Trevor Phelps had an RBI and had eight strikeouts on the mound. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks.
Mt. Abram started the game with a two-run first inning.
Hayden Fletcher had an RBI for Monmouth. The Mustangs scored a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
OXFORD HILLS/BUCKFIELD 12, MT. BLUE 9: The Vikings (7-1) used an eight-run uprising in the bottom of the sixth inning to overpower the Cougars (4-5) in South Paris.
The Cougars outhit Oxford Hills 13-6, but Mt. Blue’s eight errors didn’t help its cause.
Eli Soehren, who homered, was the only repeat hitter with two hits for Oxford Hills. He also scored five runs and drove in two. First baseman Isaiah Oufiero tripled and drove in a run.
Mt. Blue’s Hayden Dippner and Evan Downing each had three hits and a triple. Kayden Delano got the win on the mound.
OAK HILL 13, MADISON 3: Caden Thompson and Landon Bangs each had two RBIs for the Raiders (4-4) in the win over the Bulldogs (5-4) in Madison.
Jackson Arbour and Trent Drouin each had two hits. Ethan Vattaso had a double.
Xavier Estes, Benjamin Thrasher and Jackson Theriault each had an RBI for Madison.
GIRLS LACROSSE
ERSKINE ACADEMY 12, OCEANSIDE 2: Sarah Praul scored five goals and added an assist as the Eagles cruised to the victory in South China.
Brooke Blais, Caleigh Cooper, Evelyn Rousseau, Isabella Boudreau, Madison McNeff, Shannon McDonough and Reese Sullivan also scored for Erskine (3-5).
Oceanside dropped to 0-2.
