SALEM — Mt. Abram emerged from a pitchers’ duel with a 2-1 win over Winthrop in a Mountain Valley Conference baseball game Wednesday in Salem.
Mt. Abram (8-2) pitcher Adam Luce tossed a complete-game two-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks, while Winthrop’s Tyler Shumway fanned nine batters. He allowed five hits and walked only one in six innings.
The MVC matchup was scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Shumway drove in Brayden Stubbert to give the Ramblers (7-5) a 1-0 lead.
Mt. Abram responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Wyatt Siemenski drove in Tucker Plouffe to tie the score, and Ian Allen then knocked in Siemenski for the go-ahead run.
ERSKINE 12, MEDOMAK VALLEY 0: Grady Hotham pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the Eagles in Waldoboro.
Hotham, who struck out nine and walked two, also had a double, two singles, three RBIs and two runs scored. Isaac Hayden added two doubles, an RBI and scored twice for Erskine (10-1) while Liam Perfetto had a double, a single, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Medomak fell to 7-5.
LISBON 12, HALL-DALE 1: The Greyhounds (10-0) scored nine runs in the third inning put away the Bulldogs (7-4) in Lisbon.
Hunter Brissette and Levi Tibbetts both notched a single and a double each for Lisbon, and Nick Ferrence struck out nine batters on the mound to earn the win.
Hall-Dale’s Max Byron and Cody Cobb both hit a single.
MT. BLUE 6, LEAVITT 4: The Cougars scored twice in the eighth inning to escape Turner with a victory.
Mt. Blue (5-6) broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the top of the seventh, but Leavitt answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to force extra innings. Finally, in the eighth, the Cougars grabbed the lead for good.
Mt. Blue took its first lead with three runs in the second inning, but Leavitt scored in the second, third and fifth innings to tie the game.
Brody Walsh homered and drove in three runs for the Cougars. Isaac Wrigley added two hits, including a double, for Mt. Blue, as did Jayden Meader, Nolan Leso and Hayden Durrell. Hayden Dippner pitched four innings of relief and earned the win.
Noah Carpenter and Connor DeCoster each had a pair of hits for Leavitt (5-8).
DIRIGO 6, MADISON 4: The Cougars (6-5) came from behind to take down the Bulldogs (6-6) in Dixfield.
After trailing 4-3 after four innings, Dirigo scored twice in the fifth inning to take the lead and tacked on another run in the sixth.
Curtis Errington hit a double and two singles to lead all hitters, while Dirigo teammates Trenton Hutchinson and Wyatt Smith both notched a pair of hits.
Madison’s Deacon Murray hit two singles, and Thomas Dean crushed a home run.
SOFTBALL
MONMOUTH 8, CARRABEC 1: The Mustangs (9-0) stayed undefeated with a comfortable home victory over the Cobras (0-8).
Casey Kaplan led the way for Monmouth with a double and a single, while Rileigh Chase, Brooklyn Federico and Katie Laliberte also doubled. Federico was also the winning pitcher.
For Carrabec, Brooke Welch smacked a double, and Shyanne Holmes took the loss in the circle.
LEAVITT 10, MT. BLUE 3: The Hornets (8-5) scored six runs in the first inning to beat the Cougars (0-11) in Turner.
Nola Boutaugh and Emily Poland both had a pair of singles while Logan Arsenault hit a double.
Eva Stevens hit two home runs and a single for Mt. Blue.
MT. ABRAM 2, WINTHROP 1: Haley Bate stole home to score the winning run for the Roadrunners in a walk-off win in Salem.
With the bases loaded, Bate drew a throw to third, then bolted for home.
Mt. Abram (3-7) pitcher Adrianna Stinchfield struck out nine batters while allowing only one run on one hit. She also had one of the Roadrunners’ two hits, a double. The other was a single by Bate.
Winthrop (6-5) pitcher Lauryn Wood struck out five batters and tossed a two-hitter. Ella Rice had the Ramblers’ lone hit, a bunt single.
MADISON 8, DIRIGO 0: The Bulldogs scored in six of seven innings in a shutout win over the Cougars in Dixfield.
Landyn Landry hit three times including a double and a home run for Madison (10-1). Brooke McKenney struck out 11 batters from the circle.
Alyvia Perreault and Emma MacFarland both notched a hit for Dirigo (4-7).
