The first-ever Jackman Region Moose Lottery Festival has been set for 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Jackman Town Office grounds, 369 Main St.
The moose lottery gives qualified hunters the chance to enter to win a Maine moose hunting permit from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. While the lottery closed to applicants May 12, the drawing will take place starting at 2 p.m. at the June 11 festival, according to a news release from the town of Jackman.
In conjunction with the lottery drawing, the one-day event will celebrate the region’s outdoor sporting and forest products heritage. Activities and events include demonstrations, instructions, competitions, comedians, live music, children’s activities, food vendors, crafts and food trucks.
On hand to present “Tales and Tips from the Maine Moose Woods” will be Maine moose hunting guide, Roger Lambert, author of “The Great Maine Moose Hunt,” a compilation of his moose hunting stories.
Other highlights include a moose hunting seminar by Big Woods Bucks, ax throwing and crosscut sawing with Timber Tina of the Great Maine Lumberjack Show, a moose antler field judging contest and a moose calling contest.
The Jackman Region Moose Lottery Festival is sponsored by the town of Jackman, 201 PowerSports, Bishop’s Store, Jackman Powersports, Trailside One Stop, Cozy Cove Cabins, Mountain Country, Skowhegan Savings, Bishop’s Motel, C. Haggan Excavation, Jackman Hardware, Moose River Campground, Sally Mountain Cabins, Northland Hotel, and Berg Activewear.
