Visitors to Norway Memorial Library can enjoy an art display by Norway artist Jeanne Millett Herley at 258 Main St. The “Playing with Cards” exhibit incorporates mixed media use of colored pencils, colored paper, and playing cards, according to a news release from the library.

Herley, born and raised in Norway, has been artistic her whole life; enjoying pencil drawings, markers, and photography of paintings in acrylic and gouache to mixed media collages over the years. She has lived in Vermont, New York City, New Jersey, Portland, Maine, Eugene, Oregon, and in 2014 moved back to Norway with her husband Peter. She has driven through all 50 states and traveled across the country by car three times. All of these experiences have influenced her art.

The 14 pieces in this exhibit are the result of a challenge from a friend on the West Coast. She encouraged people to make art with cards. Herley  interpreted her suggestion as making art out of playing cards. The challenge in combination with graphic design education and her love for color are the foundation for her pieces.

This display is on view through the first week of August whenever the library is open. For more information, call 207-743-5309 ext. 1. Norway Memorial Library is located at 258 Main St., Norway.
