SKOWHEGAN — A barbecue lunch was held Thursday for first responders in Somerset County in an effort to show thanks for the work they do.

It was the fourth annual barbecue held by the Hight Family of Dealerships for emergency workers. The company joined with Skowhegan Savings Bank to host and sponsor the event.

“This event is a great opportunity to get together with first responders across the region,” Skowhegan police Chief David Bucknam said in a news release. “We see each other in emergency situations throughout the year, but rarely get the chance to visit and come together over a meal.”

Thursday’s gathering was held at Hight Ford in Skowhegan.

Personnel from the Skowhegan Fire Department, Norridgewock Fire Department, Redington-Fairview General Hospital Emergency Medical Service, Maine Warden Service and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office joined in a meal that featured smoked pork and wings.

Caleb York of York’s Landscaping did the cooking, corn muffins for the group were baked at The Bankery & Skowhegan Fleuriste in Skowhegan, and ice cream came from Kennebec Ice Kreamery in Madison.
