The Whitefield Historical Society plans to hold its annual Day of Remembrance at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Whitefield Fire Station, 24 Townhouse Road.
Deborah Gould, author of “The Eastern novels: The Early Years and Later On,” will be this year’s guest speaker.
Gould grew up in Portland and Brunswick. After college in New Hampshire, she moved to Boston and worked for a major publishing firm, but later returned to Maine, according to a news release from Sue McKeen, society member.
She was a Maine Literary Award short fiction finalist in 2013 and, a year later, won that award. Her historical novel “The Early Years” was a 2016 Maine Literary Award finalist; her contemporary fiction, “Household” (2021), was endorsed by Patrisha McLean, founder of Finding Our Voices.
Gould was a longtime volunteer for two domestic violence agencies in Maine, facilitating support groups for women in abusive relationships; she served on the board of directors of The Family Violence Project.
A member of the Cumberland Street Writers, she is a three-season resident of Brunswick and summers on Flying Pond in Mount Vernon.
Refreshments will be served.
