The Stewart Library Association, doing business as Stewart Public Library in North Anson, has been recognized by Maine Secretary of State Shana Bellows for 100 years of incorporation.

The library was originally started in 1899 as Anson Public Library and later changed to Foster Public Library.

After a 1913 fire that destroyed downtown North Anson, a donation allowed the library to purchase and move into the current building, according to a news release from the library.

The association was created in 1922 by state statutes.

Mitchell Quint of North Anson has been president for 18 years.

Beverly Tripp, also of North Anson, was a volunteer for more than 40 years and treasurer of the association for 15 years.
