Bethany Ives of Hallowell, a senior at Hall-Dale High School in Farmingdale, is receiving the 2023 Principal’s Award, according to a news release from Principal Mark Tinkham.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

“Bethany has distinguished herself at Hall-Dale through exemplary school work, on the pitch, as a dancer, involvement in theater and musicals, and her volunteerism,” Tinkham noted in his remarks.

She set herself apart from others this past summer by training as a sea cadet on a few sailing trips, assisting the captain with boat operations, safety and sailing instruction. She sets ambitious goals and creates concrete plans on how to achieve them, Tinkham said.

Ultimately, her being a cadet and a Harvey Freight Fellow instilled a further love for the sea and helped guide her decision making to accept nomination at Maine Maritime Academy where she will both study and continue playing soccer this fall.

Ives, Tinkham and other award winners and their principals plan to attend an honors luncheon Saturday, April 1, at Jeff’s Catering.

The luncheon recognizes these students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of 10 $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals and MPA Executive Directors: Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler, and Richard A. Durost.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
