PITTSFIELD — The Maine Central Institute softball team jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 14-11 win over St. Dominic on Saturday.
Neither team’s offense took long to warm up, each plating nine runs in the first three innings.
The Huskies (1-1) led 7-2 after two innings. St. Dom’s (1-1) scored seven in the top of the third, with Sophia Franciose, Aiva Dorman, Aubrey Fortin, Charli Apodaca and Madeline Andrews all driving in runs, to go ahead 9-7.
The Huskies brought in two more runs in the bottom of the third then went up for good with three runs in the fourth.
Kassie Snowman earned the win for MCI.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 16-11, MOUNT VIEW 0-8: Lily Rawnsley pitched a two-hitter and drove in four runs in the opener, and Hayden Wienckowski had three hits and three RBI in the second game as NYA started its season with a doubleheader sweep against Mt. View (0-4), winning in a pair of five-inning games in Yarmouth.
Anna Belleau added three hits and three RBI in Game 1, which included an 11-run second inning for the Panthers. Rawnsley had a triple and two singles.
Maddie Roux led Mt. View with two singles and a triple in Game 2.
GIRLS LACROSSE
BRUNSWICK 14, CONY 4: Maci Freeman and Azabell Assaf each scored two goals for the Rams (2-1) in a loss to the Dragons (3-0) in Brunswick.
Dinah Wadleigh had two assists for Cony. Madison Chavarie had 17 saves.
Elizabeth Putnam scored five goals for Brunswick, including her 100th career goal. Lydia Blood and Kelsie Carlton each scored two goals and had an assist for the Dragons.
BASEBALL
SACOPEE VALLEY 21-14, RICHMOND 1-3: Austin Croteau homered during a 15-run second inning in Game 1, then hit another home run while driving in four runs in Game 2 as the Hawks (2-0) swept a doubleheader against Richmond (0-3) in Hiram.
Caleb Vacchiano also had four RBI in the second game, including a three-run homer in the first inning.
Carson Black was the winning pitcher in Game 1 and drove in runs with a home run and a single. He went 4 for 4 in Game 2.
