FARMINGTON — It appears a Marshalls store plans to move into the former storefronts of Fashion Bug and Olympia Sports on Hannaford Drive. Hannaford and Rent-A-Center are currently in that plaza.

There is a store opening anticipated about Oct. 15, a customer service representative for Marshalls said Monday.

Rent-A-Center is expected to stay at the plaza but move to a different storefront.

A sign permit was approved April 20 for signs for Marshalls No. 1581 by the town’s Code Enforcement Officer Steve Kaiser. A business registration packet still needs to be filed, Assistant Code Officer Kate Foster said.

The rendering of the signs depicts a sign above the building and a sign on the pylon sign, also known as a highway or road sign, that lists the businesses in the plaza. The latter will take the place of the Skowhegan Savings Bank sign. The bank built a new building next to the entrance to the plaza on Wilton Road.

A crew was clearing out drywall, boards and other debris from the vacant storefronts of 121 and 123 Hannaford Drive, where Marshalls is expected to go. Work is also being done on 115 Hannaford Drive, which has been vacant since Mr. Paperback closed in 2012. Hannaford is adjacent to the storefronts.

American Sign Inc., of New Haven, Connecticut, which is making the signs, filed for the sign permit for property owner Retail Business Services at 131 Hannaford Drive, where Hannaford is located.

Marshalls is operated by The TJX Companies Inc., a global off price retailer of apparel and home fashions. TJX also operates several other stores, including T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods.

Another new store is also planning to open in town. The Granite Group is moving into the former Bouffard’s Furniture & Carpet store building on Wilton Road.

“The Granite Group is very excited to announce our newest branch will have its home at 662 Wilton Road (Route 2) in Farmington, Maine. Our team has already started construction of this new location which can be found in the former Bouffard’s Furniture and Carpet store building,” according to its website. “We plan to have TGG Farmington open for business by mid-June 2023.”

The Granite Group is a full-service wholesale distributor of plumbing, heating, cooling, piping, water systems and energy products, according to the site.

A sign permit needs to be submitted to the town, Foster said.
