SKOWHEGAN — Calling all pregnant women, new moms, and their families in Somerset County, The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program’s Family Enrichment Council and more than 25 area partner organizations plan to host the fourth annual free Community Baby Shower.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at the Centenary United Methodist Church on the Dr. Mann Road. Approximately 150 families have registered and will attend one of three staggered sessions in order to reduce the size of each group. This free event supports new families with resources, education, and helpful gifts. Registration is required prior to the event, according to a news release from Andrea Pasco with KVCAP.
Dozens of raffle and door prizes will be given away throughout the event, including baby bath items, car seats, pack and plays, strollers and more.
The shower is designed to support parents and help them by providing basic newborn supplies, knowledge about resources in the community, to make new social connections, and simply have fun together.
Community partners will provide information and giveaways to attendees. Topics include safe sleep practices, breastfeeding, health services, the WIC program, car seat safety, self-care for parents, a baby boutique with free gently used baby clothes, and more. Registered participants will receive a Welcome Baby Bag filled with items for their newborn and light refreshments will be served.
“The Community Baby Shower is a great way to celebrate pregnant women and new families and let them know they are a vital part of our community,” said event organizer, Kristen Plummer, according the release. “Our past baby showers have been well-attended and we look forward to another successful event where families leave with new tools in their parenting tool box.”
