AUGUSTA – Though a meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday morning for the public to weigh in on the congressional redistricting proposals, it’s not clear what exactly the latest plans are.
Republicans and Democrats, who offered wildly different plans earlier this week, are still negotiating in hopes of reaching a compromise. Both sides are expected to release updated versions of their own plans later today.
A public hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Appropriations Committee room at the State House in Augusta.
Lawmakers have to find a way to even out the population of the state’s two congressional districts, which amounts to adding about 4,000 people to the 2nd District, according to the 2010 U.S. Census.
