FARMINGDALE — Hall-Dale High School has announced its top 10 seniors in the class of 2014.
Steven Longfellow, son of Walter and Pamela Longfellow of Farmingdale, is valedictorian. Longfellow captained both the soccer and track and field team, helping to lead the soccer team to the conference championships. He has also been a member of the concert band, jazz band, jazz chorus, classical All-State chorus and Boys State.
Longfellow plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono in hopes of becoming an engineer.
Adam Fullmer, son of Troy and Marcy Fullmer of Hallowell, is salutatorian. Fullmer is a member of the Taiko drumming team and varsity soccer team. Outside of school, he is a volunteer at a faith-based thrift store and at a local, faith-based food/clothing bank. His passions are in the areas of math and science and he plans on attending the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in mechanical engineering.
Erin Ballew is the daughter of Cary Colwell of Hallowell and John Ballew of Fairfield. Ballew was president of the Civil Rights Team, a member of Student Senate, jazz band, math team and an officer in the National Honor Society. She has also been a volunteer with the Harlow Gallery, Historic Hallowell Committee, State Senate campaign and Mainers United for Marriage.
Ballew plans on attending the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in electrical engineering.
Kristen Veayo is the daughter of Steve and Michelle Veayo of Winthrop. She is a member of National Honor Society, chorus, jazz choir, Drama Club and Music Council. She has also been involved with organizing and performing at bullying awareness events throughout New England.
As a singer and songwriter, Veayo is one half of a musical group that performs throughout Maine and New England. She plans on attending the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in biology.
Amara Truman is the daughter of Isis Truman of Hallowell and Andrew Truman of Augusta. She has been a class president and a member of the Key Club, soccer, softball and basketball teams. Truman has volunteered at youth soccer programs and Bible school. She plans on attending the University of Maine, majoring in premedical biology.
Maura Stottler is the daughter of Christine and Roy Stottler of Farmingdale. She is a member of the soccer and tennis team, serving as a captain of both, and helped lead the tennis team to conference championship. Stottler is also a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, Student Senate and has volunteered with Hall-Dale youth soccer programs.
She plans on attending the University of New England, majoring in athletic training.
Katherine Veayo is the daughter of Steve and Michelle Veayo of Winthrop. Veayo is a member of the National Honor Society, chorus, jazz choir, track and field, Jobs for Maine Grads and Music Council. She has also been involved with organizing and performing at bullying awareness events throughout New England.
Veayo, also a lead member of a musical group, has performed at numerous public and private functions. She plans on attending Capilo Institute, majoring in cosmetology.
Haley McPherson is the daughter of Peter and Gayle McPherson of Hallowell. She has been involved with National Honor Society, dance and the Big Buddy Program. She also volunteers at St. Mark’s, the William S. Cohen Community Center and the local elementary school. McPherson is combining her two passions, art and working with children, as she prepares for her life after of high school. She plans on attending Emmanuel College, majoring in elementary education with a concentration in art.
Emily Maynard is the daughter of Timothy and Brynn Maynard of Farmingdale. She plays soccer and softball, serving as captain of both teams. Maynard is president of National Honor Society and has been involved with Student Senate for two years. She is a member of the basketball team and has also been a youth soccer volunteer. She plans on attending the University of Maine Orono, majoring in nursing.
Adam Small is the son of Linda Small of Farmingdale. He has been a member of the soccer, basketball, baseball, track and field team, jazz band and jazz choir. Outside of school, Small has done community service for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as a Boy Scout senior patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster. Small has also received the Eagle Scout Award.
After a year of doing missionary work, Small plans on attending Brigham Young University — Idaho, majoring in psychology.
Matthew Mills is the son of Wenonah Wirick of Wiscasset and Glenn Mills of Augusta. Mills has been a member of the swim team, track team and National Honor Society. He has also been an active member of the Navy Sea Cadets, taking part in various trainings in Virginia and Florida. Mills is also a certified lifeguard and uses his skills in several area YMCAs. His plans are to major in financial economics at the University of Maine.
