Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Golden’s opposition to Biden’s student loan forgiveness measures have been labelled “divisive and nasty” by Amy Fried, a political science professor at the University of Maine. Golden’s sinful remarks? That he opposed student debt relief for “people who freely chose to attend college, and were privileged to have the opportunity to make six-figure salaries for life.” (“Jared Golden criticized for vehemence of his opposition to student debt relief,” Aug. 18.) A truism, at worse.
Tiffany Bond, an independent who twice ran against Golden, chided him thusly: “What the hell is wrong with you, Jared? Rural Maine will have no dentists, doctors, lawyers, teachers, or anyone requiring a professional education. You don’t understand rural Maine.” Arguably, quite the argument for freeloaders, for rural Mainers! I didn’t vote for Tiffany.
During law school studies, I resided at the YMCA, Portland, Maine, and set pins in the basement, for supper money, when the G.I. Bill ran out; earned in the Marines during the Korean War.
As a 92-years old Marine, I end on a high note of support for Rep. Jared Golden: “HUGHRAH!” The Marine Corps meritorious shout! In the key of XYZ!
