SKOWHEGAN — One person was injured and about 60 Central Maine Power customers lost power Wednesday when an SUV drove into a utility pole on Madison Avenue, officials said.
The blue SUV left the road around 8:30 a.m. and struck the pole head-on in front of Damons Quick Stop convenience store, Skowhegan Fire Chief Ronnie Rodriguez said.
The driver was the only occupant and suffered minor injuries. The person was transported to Redington-Fairview General Hospital for treatment, Rodriguez said.
It’s not clear what led the SUV to veer off the road but police are investigating, he said.
The pole was snapped at its base, causing the power outage to businesses and homes in the area, according to CMP’s director of communications, Jon Breed.
Power was restored as of 3 p.m., he said.
Skowhegan police, fire and ambulance services responded to the incident. A lane of Madison Avenue was closed and traffic was slowed as crews worked the scene.
