AUGUSTA — Live poetry has returned to Lithgow Public Library. The local group Pondtown Poets plans to share its members’ craft from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 in the Community Meeting Room, 45 Winthrop St.
The group has been active in the area for 20 years, according to a news release from Sarah Curra Schultz-Nielsen, library director.
Susan J. Parks is one of the founders of the Pondtown Poets. She began writing poetry as a teenager.
Sally Rowe Joy is a Maine native whose poems have appeared in numerous periodicals. She is an active member of the Maine Poets Society and Pondtown Poets.
Anne Carter began journaling in junior high school, and she has been writing ever since. She is one of the newer members of Pondtown Poets.
John Seksay, the newest member, is new to Maine. The state’s strong poetic culture has helped him pursue his passion and hone his skills.
Marilyn Martin Lucht, a former Maine resident who now lives out of state says, “One of the legacies for me is the joy of being part of The Pondtown Poets, sharing the beauty of spaces between the words with wonderful people who have become friends.”
The event will present the poets sharing some of their own works, including new pieces on the theme “Life in Maine,” followed by an open mic period to round out the event. Local voices can share their own poetic pieces that speak to this topic of life in local Maine communities.
There will be a signup sheet at the door for those who wish to read, and order of signup will be the reading order. To allow for as many readers as possible, it is recommended a poem be 30 lines or less for each reader, with a short intro about their inspiration for their piece.
This program is free and open to all.
