AUGUSTA — A Sanford bicyclist was taken Sunday to the hospital in Augusta after he hit a vehicle at Cony Circle, according to police.

The man, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered a head injury, Sgt. Todd Nyberg of the Augusta Police Department said Monday.

Nyberg said the crash, which occurred just before noon, remained under investigation Monday, and a full report had yet to be completed.

Police were not identifying the bicyclist as of Monday.

A crash report filed with the Maine Department of Public Safety identifies the cyclist as Edward D. Kilian, 50.

The report states Kilian had entered Cony Circle from Cony Street, heading west, and failed to yield the right of way, hitting the SUV driven by Coleta Crowell of Fairfield.

Crowell was already in the traffic circle and was turning onto Bangor Street, police said.

Crowell was not distracted and did nothing to contribute to the crash, according to the report.

The description states Kilian was listening to music on headphones at the time of the crash.

A spokeswoman for MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta said Monday that Kilian was no longer at the hospital.

There have been at least seven bicycle crashes involving injuries in Augusta this year, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.
