Skowhegan History House Museum & Research Center’s Wabanaki Voices Speaker Series is set to continue at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the Margaret Chase Smith Library, 55 Norridgewock Ave.
Ambassador Maulian Dana Bryant and Darren J. Ranco will share the history of the issue and potential detailed changes that sovereignty would bring, according to a news release from the museum.

Ranco, a Penobscot Tribal member, is an associate professor of anthropology and coordinator of Native American research at the University of Maine at Orono. His research focuses on the ways in which Indigenous communities in the United States resist environmental destruction by using indigenous science and critiques to protect natural and cultural resources.
He teaches classes on Indigenous intellectual property rights, research ethics, environmental justice and tribal governance.
Bryant was appointed by Penobscot Nation Chief Kirk Francis in 2017. As ambassador, she is responsible to act as a representative of the Penobscot Nation and to serve as a liaison for the Nation at the local, state and federal levels of government to educate and advocate for policy and laws that impact and protect the Penobscot Nation’s sovereignty, culture, natural resources and the general welfare of the Penobscot people.
Bryant previously served as an elected member of the Penobscot Tribal Council. She grew up on Indian Island within the Penobscot Nation’s Reservation.
