MONMOUTH — Sammy Calder started hot and shot his way to a game-high 24 points as the Monmouth Academy boys basketball team defeated Mountain Valley 54-39 on Thursday night.
Calder scored eight points in the first quarter and added six more in the second for Monmouth (2-1) . Levi Laverdiere added 10 points and Lucas Harmon pitched in with nine.
Jake New paced Mountain Valley (1-2) with 16 points, with all but two coming in the final three quarters.
MT. ABRAM 68, MARANACOOK 64: Payton Mitchell scored nine of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Roadrunners earned the come-from-behind win in Salem Township.
Logan Dube scored five of his 13 in the fourth and Cam Grey six of his 12 for Mt. Abram, which trailed 48-47 after three quarters.
Keagan McClure scored a team-high 20 points for Maranacook (2-1), which led after each of the first three quarters.
FOREST HILLS 65, TEMPLE ACADEMY 32: Blaine Nadeau scored 20 points as the Tigers (4-0) won in Waterville to stay undefeated.
Cooper Daigle added 16 points and Jaxson Desjardins 11 for Forest Hills, which led 42-14 at halftime.
Nathan Corey scored 13 points for Temple Academy (0-2).
MADISON 35, OAK HILL 26: Deacon Murray and Brode Strout scored 10 points apiece as the Bulldogs (3-0) stayed undefeated with the win at Madison.
Braden New led all scorers with 11 points for Oak Hill (0-3).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 46, MONMOUTH ACADEMY 24: Brooke Brown and Ella Young were identical in the scorebook, finishing with nine points each on four 2-pointers and a free throw, leading the Falcons (1-2) to a win in Rumford.
Maisy Chase chipped in seven points for Mountain Valley. Defensively, Brooke Bennett and Layce Boucher each had several steals.
Reese Beaudoin (13 points) and Tarynn Keleher (eight points) were the leading scorers for Monmouth (0-3).
