MADISON — Three suspects involved in the armed robbery of the Big Apple convenience store in Madison in August have been identified following a five monthslong investigation, authorities said Tuesday.

Raymond Ellis, 34, of Skowhegan, and Seth Johnson, 19, of Skowhegan are facing charges for their role in the incident, Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said in a news release. The third suspect has only been identified by investigators and has not yet been charged, Lancaster said.
Ellis was charged on Friday with robbery and theft, the release said.
At the time of his arrest, Ellis was already being held at the Somerset County Jail in East Madison on several charges related to a Nov. 8 incident in which he led police on a chase through downtown Skowhegan after a detective tried to execute a drug search warrant, according to Lancaster.
Ellis’ bail in the robbery and theft case is set at $25,000, while he has a separate bail set for his other unrelated charges at $100,000, according to Lancaster. His next court date for the robbery case is March 6.
Meanwhile, Johnson was issued a summons by the sheriff’s office on Dec. 22 and is due in court for a charge of robbery on March 6, Lancaster said.
Police believe Ellis, Johnson and the other suspect that they have identified stole cash and merchandise from the Big Apple on Old Point Avenue early in the morning on Aug. 5.
At the time of the robbery, two men armed with guns reportedly took an undisclosed amount of money and other merchandise before fleeing, Lancaster said in Tuesday’s news release. “Deputies responded but were unable to make contact with the alleged perpetrators,” he said.
Robbery is a class A felony, the most severe classification of criminal offenses in Maine. Class A crimes are punishable by up to 30 years in prison and $50,000 in fines, according to state statutes.
