FARMINGTON — A first-of-its-kind in Maine, full-scale, Homeland Security training exercise will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, on the University of Maine at Farmington campus.
The exercise will include a simulated emergency scenario with volunteers posing as injured individuals and a potential secondary incident nearby. Numerous emergency vehicles along with some loud noises will be present in the area and are part of the training exercise.
Some local streets will be closed for a short period of time to facilitate the exercise and ensure the safety of participants and members of the public.
The exercise is being planned by the UMF Crisis Management Team, the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency, Maine Emergency Management Agency and local emergency responders. Emergency response will be by campus police, local police, sheriff and fire departments, EMS groups, Franklin Memorial Hospital and the UMF Crisis Management Team.
The event will provide valuable, regional insight into emergency preparedness best practices. It will focus on the methods of emergency response, notification of university students and local citizens, evaluation of emergency response policies for several responders and how to mitigate hazardous conditions.
