L. C. Bates Museum

HINCKLEY — Stephen Ramsden, an astronomer and founder of the Charlie Bates Solar Astronomy Project, will present a public program on Solar Viewing at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in the Prescott Auditorium on the Good Will–Hinckley campus.

Ramsden will also support solar viewing in the L.C.Bates Museum Observatory from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.on Friday, Aug, 8, and Saturday, Aug. 9, if the skies are clear. Ramsden will support the museum staff in adding new public viewing and imaging opportunities at the observatory. The new equipment will give visitors an opportunity to see the sun on a screen and take photographs of the sun. Through his talk, Ramsden will share information about the awesome beauty and amazing features of our nearest star, the Sun.

The L.C.Bates Museum’s annual Moths and Meteorites Night is set for 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. Participants can discover Maine’s moths and watch for incoming meteorites.
