FAIRFIELD — School board member Arel Spaulding, one year into a three-year term, has resigned.

Spaulding’s resignation becomes effective Nov. 12. His term ends Dec. 31, 2016.

The Town Council voted to accept the resignation and request letters of interest from Fairfield residents who want to be appointed to fill the upcoming vacancy, said Town Manager Joshua Reny.

Letters are due at the Town Office by 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10.

The Town Council will make an appointment as early as Nov. 12. The appointment will be for a term ending Dec. 31, 2015. The seat will then be on the ballot in the town election next November and the person elected at that time will complete the final year of the three-year term.
