WATERVILLE — The 22nd annual dip, The Shamrock Shiver, is set for Saturday, March 14, at the Snow Pond swim area at the Oakland Boat Landing, according to a news release from Crista Lavenson at the Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA of Greater Waterville.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. with the Dip starting at 11 a.m. If the ice allows, organizers plan to ramp up the fun with a group race down the snowy shore for a frigid free for all, all dippers diving in at once. After drying off and warming up, participants can reconvene at Silver Street Tavern for an awards shindig.

Please be green — in costume that is. The theme is St. Patty’s Day and organizers encourage participants to wear green. Prizes will be awarded not only for best costumes, but for most money raised, most dippers on a team, and new this year, for winning the Battle of The Sexes. Event organizers will keep track of male and female dippers; the gender with the most jumpers wins.

The event will be hosted by 92 Moose’s Jon James.

All proceeds raised will fund the Alfond Youth Center Kid’s Kitchen. The kitchen serves more than 40,000 hot meals a year to approximately 200 children on a daily basis, according to the release. This meal is more important than most of us can understand — approximately 67 percent of the children receiving a meal after school say this is the last meal of the day for them.

Those interested can register for the Shamrock Shiver on line at ClubAYC.org or pick up a copy at the front desk of the Alfond Youth Center. People can even raise pledges online by sending friends, parents, teachers etc. to the site to click on the Sponsor a Dipper link www.formstack.com/forms/?1475579-CHCTzX4bpo.
