Whitefield area youth in grades 5-8 are invited to take part in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Club sampler sessions. Interested youth can sign up for one or more sessions that will run on Thursdays, beginning March 19 through April 16 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sessions take place at the Whitefield Elementary School and are open to homeschoolers, according to a news release from the Maine Mathematics & Science Alliance. Each session focuses on a different STEM topic and will be led by 4-H community educators. Sessions are free, though pre-registration is required by Monday, March 16.

STEM Club sampler sessions include Take the Eco-Bot Challenge March 19; Rockets to the Rescue March 26; Seaweed, It’s What’s for Dinner April 2; Junk Drawer Robotics April 9; and Maps & Apps April 16. For complete session descriptions and registration materials contact CLC Lead STEM Guide Lynn Farrin at lfarrin@mmsa.org or 592-8927.

The STEM Club sampler sessions are part of the Alliance’s NSF-funded STEM Guides project (grant #132287), whose partners include 4-H and local libraries. The Central Lincoln County area is the third area of focus to be established for this project. The STEM Guides program is designed to help kids and families find and get involved in out-of-school activities like clubs, special events, camps, and online activities.
