AUGUSTA — During April school vacation week, April 21-24, the Maine State Museum will offer activities for the whole family. These opportunities for hands-on exploration and family fun are suitable for all ages and are free with the price of museum admission.

• History touch cart, 10 a.m.-noon and 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, April 21 and Thursday, April 23. Participants can investigate a history cart full of artifacts to be handled and explored with the help of museum educators. Examine historic tools, clothing and personal items — some are recognizable, others are a mystery.

• Old-fashion games, 10 a.m.-noon and 2-4 p.m., Wednesday, April 22 and Friday, April 24. Try hop scotch, hoop roll, game of three graces, and nine pins. Or head up to the 1960’s Living Room within the At Home In Maine exhibit on the 4th floor and settle in for a round of knucklebones, checkers, Chinese checkers or pick up sticks.

The museum is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Admission cost $2 for adults; $1 for seniors older than 62 and children 6-18 years old; and free for younger children. Maximum charge for families is $6.
