BINGHAM — Residents in School Administrative District 13 approved a $3.4 million budget Thursday night, including $15,000 for new administrative liaisons.
The 21 articles in the warrant for the district budget meeting were approved by about 20 people at the meeting and will now go to a referendum on June 9.
The $3,432,903 budget represents an increase of $97,896, or about 3 percent, from last year’s budget of $3,335,007. However, the amount of money to be raised locally has decreased by about $9,000 in Bingham and $14,000 in Moscow.
Some of the increases in the budget include $15,000 for administrative liaisons, new stipend positions that will spread out the responsibilities of the superintendent and current district-wide principal. Rising costs for teacher retirement, utility and electric bills and repairs to the Quimby Middle School roof are also being factored into increases in costs.
The district is receiving about $110,000 in additional state subsidies this year, which has also helped to keep the budget low, according to Superintendent Virginia Rebar. School Board Chairman Brian Malloy also pointed out at Thursday night’s meeting that the district has contracted a heating fuel agreement for next year that is just over two dollars per gallon and will also bring savings.
Polls will be open for voting on June 9 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in each town.
