JACKMAN — Forest Hills School recently announced its top four seniors for the class of 2015.
Samantha Begin, daughter of Steven and Rebecca Begin, of Jackman, is class valedictorian. She is a member of the National Honor Society, two-term student member of the school board and class president for three years. Begin also serves on several other boards: Live2Learn summer and after-school program, MELMAC grant team and the Focus School Leadership Team. She was named Miss Forest Hills her junior year. She has been a leader in yearbook for three years and the math team for five years starting in eighth grade as well as serving on the Color Guard. Begin served in leadership roles for three years on the high school students council. In addition to these activities, as well as volunteering and working, she has been on the basketball and softball team since eighth grade. Begin plans to attend the University of Prince Edward Island in the pre-veterinary medicine program in the fall.
Keely Taylor, daughter of Jill Taylor and Dennis Shelley, of Jackman, is class salutatorian. She has earned distinction academically while also being involved in many activities. She has been an active member of the debate and math team for three years. Taylor has provided many hours to the Live2Learn after-school and summer program consistently since eighth grade. This year she has been in Student Council and also the yearbook club. She has excelled as an athlete and on the basketball team since eighth grade (and East/West All-Star) and on the softball team as a freshman. She has a keen interest in the medical field and the community supported her fundraising efforts so that she could attend the National Student Leadership Conference where she joined many students interested in medicine from around the country. Taylor plans to attend the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Studies to become a physical therapist.
Haley Cuddy, daughter of Ed and Michelle Cuddy, of Jackman, is class honor essayist. She has been on the math team since eighth grade and a member for the National Honor Society. She has been an active volunteer for the Live2Learn after-school and summer program since eighth grade. Cuddy has been a leader in yearbook for three years and in Student Council for three years, this year serving as president as well as serving on the Color Guard. For three years she has volunteered for the Jackman Region Community Association for summer youth programs and also is a member of the Jackman Youth Leadership club which supports students not using drugs or alcohol. In addition, she has been in basketball for five years since eighth grade and has been named an East/West All-Star. Cuddy plans to attend Southern Maine Community College in liberal studies.
Danya Bent, daughter of Tim and Sandra Bent, of Jackman, is the class historian. Besides raising horses, she has had a strong academic career in high school and helped in many class activities. She also has helped in the family business while in school. Bent plans to attend Meredith Manor Equestrian School and begin a training career.
