The New England Outdoor Writers Association recently announced the finalists in its 2015 Youth Writing Contest. Although the contest attracted entries from schools from all over New England, both of the New England-wide winners are from Maine. Each finalist first had to win at the state level before being eligible to compete with state level winners from the other New England states, according to a news release from the association.
The final winners, who will receive a cash award from NEOWA for their efforts, are Emma Hagenaars, a seventh-grade student at Maranacook Middle School in Readfield, and Jack Lander, a sophomore at Calais High School in Calais. The winning essays were published this month in the Northwoods Sporting Journal.
