A Waterville man avoided injury Monday afternoon after swerving to avoid hitting an animal in the road on Upper Main Street, police said.
James Salisbury, 57, swerved to avoid the animal, which he thought was either a rabbit or a cat, said Sgt. Brian Gardiner, of the Waterville Police Department.
The swerve caused Salisbury to hit a utility pole. The car, a Chevrolet Cavalier, rolled onto its roof. Salisbury was not injured and refused medical treatment, Gardiner said.
