GARDINER — DaPonte String Quartet will perform a Valentine’s Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb 13, at Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center.

The concert will feature a “tossed salad” of short eclectic pieces from around the world, ranging from classical favorites to modern whimsy, all designed to find beauty in the world around us.

Also included is a romantic folksong from Syria, “Ya Tira Tiri,” and more classic fare: the “Andante Cantabile” movement from Tchaikovsky’s String Quartet No. 1, which when played for Leo Tolstoy is said to have moved the writer to tears; J. S. Bach’s familiar and instantly recognizable “Air” plus other selections from Art of the Fugue; Vivaldi’s Concerto Opus 3 No. 2 from “L’Estro Armonico;” and “Two Fantasias on A Young Girl” (“Une Jeune Fillette”) by Eustache Du Caurroy, a late-Renaissance French composer.

Tickets cost $18 for all seats and are available by contacting Johnson Hall’s box office from noon to three Tuesday through Friday at 582-7144 or by visiting their website at www.johnsonhall.org.
