AUGUSTA — A number of individuals were indicted on various drug charges Friday, including two men charged in connection with an investigation into a heroin trafficking scheme in Gardiner.

Nathan D. Price, 28, of Chelsea, is accused of unlawful trafficking in heroin, which allegedly took place on or about Oct. 21, 2015, in Gardiner. Price had previously served a prison sentence for arson, attempted arson and aggravated criminal mischief that took place in Chelsea and Augusta.

He remains in Kennebec County jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $5,000 worth of real estate and a Maine Pretrial Services supervisory contract.

Also indicted Friday as a result of the investigation conducted by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Gardiner Police Department is Tyrone Sanders, also known as Grumpy and Chief among other aliases, 27, of Bronx, New York.

Sanders is charged with five counts of unlawful trafficking in heroin, three counts of violations of conditions of release, one count each of unlawful possession of cocaine base and falsifying physical evidence, all between Oct. 20, 2015, and Dec. 9, 2015, in Gardiner. In addition, he was charged with three counts of criminal forfeiture, one of $11,490 seized Oct. 26, 2015, from his vehicle in Gardiner, one of $1,423 seized Dec. 9, 2015, from his residence in Gardiner, and one of three firearms, all seized Oct. 26, 2015 in Gardiner. He remains in jail with bail set at $10,000 cash.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but it indicates that there is enough evidence to proceed with formal charges and a trial.
