Gardiner City Council member Maureen Blanchard announced recently that she is running for the Senate District 14 seat.
Blanchard, a Republican, is seeking to replace Sen. Earle McCormick, R-West Gardiner, who is not seeking re-election.
In a news release, Blanchard describes herself as an advocate for lower taxes and economic development. Her work experience includes time in the Office of the Maine Attorney General working on the state’s Automobile Lemon Law and consumer mediation programs, according to the release.
Blanchard is the third candidate to announce an intention to run for Senate District 14, which consists of Chelsea, Farmingdale, Gardiner, Hallowell, Manchester, Monmouth, Pittston, Randolph, Readfield, West Gardiner and Winthrop. Gardiner City Council member Terry Berry and George O’Keefe Jr., of Winthrop, both Democrats, also have announced plans to run for the seat.
