AUGUSTA – Gov. Paul LePage is considering an 11th-hour deal with Democrats that would allow a bill to boost solar power in Maine to become law.

The Republican governor said on WVOM-FM Tuesday that he has been working with Democrats to make the bill “more palatable,” but he doubted that a deal could be reached. He indicated previously that he would veto it.

Assistant Majority Leader Sara Gideon, a Democrat from Freeport, said she is trying to negotiate an agreement that is acceptable to both LePage and the state’s solar installers. Gideon said the deadline for the veto is midnight Thursday.

The Legislature would vote on Friday.
