PALMYRA — A structure fire caused heavy damage to parts of a home on Warren Hill Road early Monday morning, fire officials said.

The Office of Maine State Fire Marshal determined that the accidental fire was caused by an electrical problem, said Sgt. Joel Davis, who works for the office’s southern division.

Firefighters got a call around 12:30 a.m. Monday about a fire at 156 Warren Hill Road, which started on the second floor of the building, according to Hartland Fire Chief Tim Kuespert.

They were able to get the fire under control within minutes, Kuespert said, and spent about an hour putting it out completely. The blaze damaged the roof and the second floor, he said. The house also sustained smoke and water damage.

The Hartland, Newport, St. Albans and Canaan fire departments responded to the emergency.

The homeowner, Jim Fifke, was in the house with his girlfriend and a dog. All of them got out safely. The house is insured, Kuespert said, and the American Red Cross is aiding the family.
