Two years of an Augusta woman’s probation were revoked and she was sentenced to an additional two years in prison after she pleaded guilty Thursday to failing to report to jail, theft and violating conditions of release.
Teresa L. Thomas, 46, who was sentenced at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta, read the judge a statement asking that he make the two 24-month sentences concurrent rather than consecutive.
She said she had turned her life around by attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, among other things, while in prison.
“I understand that I made bad choices,” Thomas said.
Justice Robert Mullen, however, said that while he was glad to hear about her progress while incarcerated, he would not approve a lesser sentence.
Lisa Whittier, the attorney representing Thomas, told the judge she had explained to Thomas that the sentences could not be concurrent.
Thomas had been ordered to report on Dec. 11, 2015, to the Knox County Jail in Rockland to serve the unsuspended 10-month portion of a five-year sentence for acquiring drugs by deception. That sentence was to be followed by two years of probation. She never reported to jail.
Thomas also was accused of committing a theft on Aug. 8, 2015, in Augusta while she was out on bail.
Thomas is at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham, where she has been since she was arrested in August in Augusta.
