Marilyn Meyerhans, owner of Lakeside Orchards in Manchester, will speak at the Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber breakfast at 7:15 a.m. Thursday at the Winthrop Commerce Center, according to a press release from the chamber.

A light breakfast is provided by Crostini’s Catering and costs $7 for chamber members and $10 for non-members.

A farmer for 42 years, Meyerhans will talk about how she and her husband, Steve, first bought the Manchester business in 1973 and what the agricultural business requires to keep it thriving. They have increased apple planting, added a cider press and bought The Apple Farm, an orchard in Fairfield.

Their Manchester orchard grows 30 varieties of apples, three varieties of pears, and crabapples. Open year round, Lakeside Orchards also has a retail store that sells apples, pears, cider, local Maine-made treats and gifts. The orchard also hosts the annual Reggae Festival, Manchester Apple Festival, educational tours and more.

The breakfast, which is sponsored by Brian Berry Associates, concludes at 8:30 a.m. For more information call 377-8020 or info@winthropchamber.org.
