The Kennebec Baptist Association will host a When the Troops Come Home workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 18, at Penney Memorial United Baptist Church, 393 Water St., Augusta.

This workshop is essential training for faith community leaders and other members of the community, according to an association news release. There is no cost for this workshop on the military culture and how to assist military members, veterans, and their families’ spiritual health.

Maine National Guard Chaplain Col. Andrew Gibson is the workshop leader. Gibson is the Joint Forces Head Quarters Chaplain for the Maine Army National Guard. He has worked in the interfaith atmosphere for more than 25 years. Gibson is the former pastor of First Congregational Church, UCC, Pittsfield.

Gibson writes, “When men and women participate in military service, it affects them, their families, and in a very special way, their spirituality. Some experience a renewal of spiritual and faith connection, while many others lose their sense of union with their God, their soul, their spirit self. As Houses of Faith, we are uniquely positioned to reach out to these warriors and their families and help them re-establish or even establish for the first time, the spiritual connection that is vital in living a whole life,” according to the release.

This is open to all faith groups. Those who plan to attend are asked to RSVP by Sunday, March 12. For more information, contact Linda Hadley-Rood at 458.9842 or liharo@aol.com.
