The fire chief in Lincoln, New Hampshire, where two men working for a Madison roofing company were injured Thursday, confirmed Monday that one of the men, Micah Nichols, remained hospitalized. Fire Chief Ron Beard said Monday he could not confirm the condition of the other man, Jacob Harrington.

Nichols, who was taken by helicopter to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, with “numerous injuries” and went into surgery, was still in the hospital, Beard said. A hospital spokeswoman said Nichols was in stable condition Monday afternoon.

Harrington, who was taken by ambulance to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, New Hampshire, had “two or three compound fractures in one of his arms” and is probably undergoing surgery. A hospital spokeswoman did not immediately return a call Monday for a condition update, but on Friday a spokesman said Harrington was in good condition.

Beard said Nichols has “severe internal injuries.”

Maine Roof Solutions owner Wilfred Brousseau confirmed Friday evening that the men had been injured in a fall from a roof. Brousseau said Nichols started to slip on the roof and Harrington went to rescue him and they both fell off the roof, which was about 43 feet high. Brousseau said he was on site at the time, but he was on another side of the building.

The U.S. Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the roofing accident. The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lodge at Lincoln Station on Main Street in Lincoln, according to Beard.

Beard said in a phone interview Friday that the two men were working for Maine Roof Solutions, which was under contract with the condominium association to replace roofs on all three sections of the building. The crew has been working at the site four or five months, he said.

“It’s under investigation,” Beard said Monday of the accident. “Hopefully in a few days I’ll have the investigation and generate a report.”
