Red Claws game with Spurs postponed twice
The G League basketball game postponed from Friday night to Saturday afternoon at the Portland Expo between the Maine Red Claws and Austin Spurs was postponed for a second time.
The Spurs, who played at Long Island on Tuesday, encountered storm-related travel difficulties that kept them in New York. A makeup date will be scheduled.
The Red Claws return to action Sunday at the Expo against Raptors 905.
HOCKEY
WORLD JUNIORS: Trent Frederic scored four times in leading the United States to a 9-3 victory against the Czech Republic in the bronze-medal game at Buffalo, New York.
Kieffer Bellows scored twice, including once on a penalty shot, and added an assist. Joey Anderson and Patrick Harper had a goal and assist each, and Ryan Poehling also scored.
n Tyler Steenbergen re-directed in Connor Timmins’ pass to break a tie with 1:40 left and Canada beat Sweden 3-1 to win the title.
FIGURE SKATING
U.S. CHAMPIONSHIPS: Maia and Alex Shibutani sizzled in their Latin short dance to outdistance their top competition at San Jose, California.
The two-time defending champions and three-time world medalists were fast and strong, punctuating their program with eight side-by-side twizzle turns as their music counted uno through ocho.

HALL OF FAME: Four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon, and record-setting pilot and eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes were among seven people selected for the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America. The other inductees are dragster builder John Buttera; Indianapolis Motor Speedway founder Carl G. Fisher; motorcycle great Fred Merkel; three-time Indianapolis 500 champion owner U.E. Pat Patrick; and sports-car team creator Bob Tullius.

WORLD CUP: Six-time defending champion Martin Fourcade claimed his second successive victory to extend his overall lead in the standings.
Fourcade shot cleanly at Oberhof, Germany, and completed the 10-kilometer sprint in 25 minutes, 3.3 seconds.
SOCCER
PREMIER LEAGUE: The English Football Association banned Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger from the touchline for three games after he accepted he was abusive when questioning the integrity of a referee.
Wenger’s outburst followed a 1-1 draw Sunday at West Bromwich Albion. Wenger was incensed at Calum Chambers being penalized for a handball and West Brom converting the penalty to tie.
FA CUP: Virgil van Dijk scored a late goal to clinch a 2-1 win for Liverpool over local rival and visiting Everton in the third round. Also, Manchester United advanced, scoring in the final six minutes in a 2-0 victory at home over second-tier Derby County.
TENNIS
HOPMAN CUP: Angelique Kerber won her singles and contributed heavily in the deciding mixed doubles victory that gave Germany a 2-1 victory against Australia and a spot in the final against Switzerland at Perth, Australia.
SHENZHEN OPEN: Defending champion Katerina Siniakova defeated Maria Sharapova 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in her first meeting with the five-time major winner to reach the final in China.
