DAMARISCOTTA — The Knox Lincoln County Beekeepers Association will offer its annual Bee School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 27 through April 10, at the American Legion Hall, 524 Waldoboro Road. One optional Saturday workshop in March is planned to assemble hives and frames for spring use.

Class instructors are members of the association in addition to the Maine State Apiarist who will speak one evening about honey bee pests and pest management.

While attending the seven-week program, students can learn about honey bees, how to select an apiary site, equipment requirements and use, four season management of honey bees, honey extraction and uses of honey and wax, along with honey bee pests and pest management options.

Perhaps the most vital part of the KLCB class, is the opportunity to meet other beekeepers in the Knox-Lincoln County area who keep bees and who are interested in mentoring new beekeepers.

The association plans monthly programs with numerous hive openings and speakers during the spring, summer and fall months to encourage hands-on experiences for all levels of beekeepers.

The course fee is $50, payable by check or cash, at the first class and includes a textbook and a pro-rated annual membership to KLCB.
