Nominations are being accepted for all categories of the Governor’s Service Awards. The goal of these awards is to celebrate and honor the exemplary work and leadership of Maine’s dedicated citizens of all ages. Since 1987 the awards program has sought to not only honor the talent contributed to the state’s many communities, but also inspire others to follow in the footsteps of those recognized.

There are nomination categories for groups, individuals and organizations. Submissions must be sent electronically by the deadlines below.

Individual Honorees: Ten opportunities to recognize individual businesses and organizations, community programs and individuals. This is a competitive award process and the awardees are honored during a ceremony presided over by First Lady Ann LePage in April at the Capitol Building in Augusta. The submission deadline is March 5.

Maine Volunteer Roll of Honor: A non-competitive award presented to nominees must be at least 19 years of age and volunteered at least 500 hours in the prior calendar year. All Volunteer Roll of Honor members receive a personalized certificate and tickets to a Sea Dogs game. The submission deadline is March 15.

Young Maine Volunteer Roll of Honor: A non-competitive award presented to any youth who takes on a leadership position in their community through youth group initiatives, student councils, independently established projects, or other social and collaborative endeavors. Nominees must be 18 years of age or younger and volunteered at least 50 hours in the prior year. All Youth Volunteer Roll of Honor members receive a personalized certificate, medals, and tickets to a youth-oriented theatrical performance and appreciation event. The submission deadline is March 15.

The awards program is managed for the Governor’s Office by the Maine Commission for Community Service.
