AUGUSTA — The Kennebec Valley Tennis Association will offer five-week red ball and orange ball tennis programs at A-Copi Tennis, 23 Leighton Road.
Participants ages 4 to 7 years old have two options: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays playing red ball. Older players, ages 8 to 11 years old, can participate in orange ball from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturdays, according to a news release from the association.
The cost for red ball and orange ball is $55 for five weeks per child.
The Kennebec Valley Tennis Association in a not-for-profit organization, doing business as A-Copi Tennis. Financial aid possibilities are available.
Dan Veilleux, club pro and director of the red and orange ball programs, said, “Mini Tennis improves players eye-hand coordination. Many of the graduates of red and orange ball have gone on to be competitors in high school and beyond,” according to the release.
Participants can expect to learn fundamentals, agility, coordination, balance, footwork, racquet, skills, matchplay, games and advanced techniques. Players can advance from one level to the next. A shorter racket is used and will be provided. A foam or felt ball is used which is 75 percent slower than the regular yellow ball. Play is on a smaller court, about the size of a badminton court.
