A Kittery man is recovering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following an incident in which he crashed his car in York and fled the scene.
York police say they were called to Old Post Road around 1:52 a.m. Saturday after a car struck one telephone pole and then snapped another pole, causing a large power outage in the area. The driver of the car left the scene before officers arrived.
About 20 minutes later, a tenant of 11 A Street Called police to report there was a man in the driveway with a gunshot wound. Officers determined the man, 24-year-old Jasen Crosby of Kittery, was the driver who had left the scene of the crash on Old Post Road. Police say it was also determined that Crosby’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
Crosby was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, then transferred to Mass General in Boston. Police did not have information about his current condition.
Lt. Steven Spofford said the incident remains under investigation and charges will likely be filed against Crosby. Police also notified the Naval Criminal Investigative Service about the incident because Crosby is in the Navy.
Old Post Road was closed until 8:30 a.m. Saturday while crews fixed the downed poles and lines.
