CASTINE — Gabriel Giguere of Manchester has been named to both the fall 2012 and spring 2013 semester dean’s lists at Maine Maritime Academy.

Giguere, a 2012 graduate of Maranacook Community High School, is enrolled in the Marine Engineering Technology program, class of 2016. He also is a member of the Regiment, and participated in soccer and lacrosse.

He is the son of Francie Philbrook and Paul Giguere of Manchester.

Nivus receives

doctorate from UNE

BIDDEFORD — Dr. Kristina E.L. Nivus, a 2005 graduate of Gardiner Area High School, has graduated from University of New England in Biddeford with a doctorate in osteopathic medicine.

She is the daughter of Scott and Martha Nivus of Pittston and Gayle Nivus of Augusta; granddaughter of Jon and Barbara Nivus of New Hampshire, Joyce and Brian Nelson of Georgia and Howard and Ellen Truman of Gardiner.

Nivus is a family medicine resident physician at The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education in Washington, D.C.

Preshong named

to dean’s list

AUGUSTA — Ashley Preshong, a 2009 graduate of Gardiner Area High School, has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at the University of Maine at Augusta.

Preshong, who received an associate’s degree in dental hygiene from the University of New England, will receive a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from UMA this summer.

Preshong is employed by the dental hygiene program at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Lewiston. She is the daughter of Maureen Wall of Gardiner and Rick Preshong of Farmingdale.

Lapointe to study

abroad in Japan

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Caelan Lapointe, of Hallowell, Maine, will study abroad this fall in Osaka, Japan, participating in intensive language courses at Kansai-Galdai University.

Lapointe is a junior majoring in mechanical engineering.

Duplisea receives

dean’s recognition

BIDDEFORD — Jeffrey Duplisea, son of Deb and Fred Duplisea of Wayne, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester at the University of New England.

Duplisea graduated magna cum laude from the university in May with a degree in sports management. He was a nominee for the student leader award and the Jacques Down Scholar Award and was recognized as an “outstanding future professional” by the college.
