Amy Calder covers Waterville, including city government, for the Morning Sentinel and writes a column, “Reporting Aside,” which appears Saturdays in both the Sentinel and Kennebec Journal. She has worked at the newspaper since 1988, including a stint as bureau chief for the Somerset County Bureau in Skowhegan, and has covered a variety of beats. A Skowhegan native (who is proud to say she was born in Waterville), she holds a bachelors in English from University of Hartford and completed post-graduate work in the School of Education at University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She holds more than two dozen awards from the Maine Press Association and New England Associated Press News Executives Association. Calder lives in Waterville with her husband, Philip Norvish, a retired Sentinel reporter and editor.

Teen boy burned when lawnmower set on fire in Waterville
WATERVILLE — Police and fire officials are investigating an arson Friday night in which a lawnmower was set on fire and destroyed off Silver Street.
A 14-year-old boy who told officials he was involved in the arson suffered burns to his left forearm and was taken to the hospital, according to both police Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey and fire Lt. Shawn Esler. -
