Bill Stewart has been the sports editor at the Morning Sentinel and Kennebec Journal since 2014. During his tenure as sports editor, the papers have received national recognition from the Associated Press Sports Editors. A Massachusetts native, he graduated from the University of Maine in 1999 with a BA in Journalism. He began his journalism career as a sports reporter at the Berkshire (Pittsfield, Massachusetts) Eagle in 1999. He also worked at the Republican-American (Waterbury, Connecticut) and Eagle-Tribune (Lawrence, Massachusetts). In his free time, he enjoys adventures with his family, reading and a good game of cribbage.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Cony’s Lucas putting together stellar career
Cony quarterback Ben Lucas will graduate as one of the most prolific passers in Maine history. He’s thrown for 6,501 yards and 72 touchdowns in his career. Lucas has thrown for 2,204 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. He has six interceptions this season, and 27 for his career.

HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: Boothbay, Lisbon win MVC titles
Boothbay came in as the favorites to win a conference title, but Lisbon used a tight pack of runners to stun the field. The Greyhounds, behind third-place finisher Bree Sautter (21:56), finished with 76 points to edge the Seahawks by one point. Monmouth finished third with 92. Boothbay cruised to the boys title with an impressive 38 points. Monmouth (67), Winthrop (83) and Hall-Dale (100) followed.
